What happened
After completing a routine flight departing from Winnipeg, the aircraft was performing its arrival at a destination featuring a 1,876-metre clay and gravel runway. As the aircraft was decelerating on runway 02/20, the nose landing gear suffered a structural failure and collapsed. This caused the aircraft to slide forward on its nose for several dozen metres before the motion ceased.
There were no injuries reported among the occupants, as everyone on board was able to evacuate the aircraft safely. However, the impact and subsequent sliding resulted in the aircraft being damaged beyond repair.
Findings
Investigations into the incident highlighted the condition of the runway surface at the time of the accident. The landing area was noted to be irregular, containing various potholes and gouges filled with water, which had been created by recent heavy rainfall.
