What happened
During a solo training exercise in the vicinity of Camp Borden, a pilot flying a Moth encountered another aircraft. The two planes collided while airborne. The other aircraft involved was an Avro 616 Avian IVM operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force, bearing the registration 97. This RCAF plane was carrying one pilot at the time of the incident.
Following the impact, both aircraft lost control and crashed into the ground, where they were completely destroyed. The pilot of the RCAF Avro did not survive the accident. In contrast, the pilot of the Moth managed to bail out before the wreckage hit the earth and escaped without injury.
