What happened
During a routine local training mission operating out of Kuching Airport, an aircraft experienced a critical mechanical failure while maneuvering for landing. As the crew was performing the final approach phase of the flight, one of the engines ceased functioning properly. This loss of power resulted in a significant reduction in altitude that the crew could not recover.
Following the loss of engine performance, the aircraft descended into a swampy region situated in the vicinity of the airport. The impact of the crash resulted in the deaths of all five occupants on board.
Findings
- The primary factor leading to the descent was the failure of one engine during the approach to the runway.
