What happened
In 1992, a twin engine aircraft was involved in an accident during the takeoff phase at Sierra Grande Airport. As the aircraft attempted to depart, it encountered intense crosswinds that caused the plane to lose stability. The flight became uncontrollable, leading to a crash at the airfield.
Despite the impact, there were no fatalities reported among the occupants. However, the aircraft sustained significant damage during the event and was subsequently declared a total loss, being damaged beyond repair.
Findings
- The primary factor in the loss of control was the presence of strong crosswinds during the takeoff roll.
