What happened
During a humanitarian flight operated for the United Nations Organization, an aircraft was performing a landing at the airport in Jérémie. As the aircraft made contact with the runway, the left main landing gear suffered a structural failure and collapsed. This mechanical failure caused the aircraft to lose directional control, resulting in a veer off the runway surface.
Following the loss of control, the aircraft continued its path until it struck the main terminal of the airport. Despite the severity of the impact, all 35 occupants on board were successfully rescued from the wreckage. Among the passengers and crew, two individuals sustained serious injuries during the accident.
Findings
- The primary factor in the accident was the collapse of the left main landing gear immediately following touchdown.
- The aircraft sustained heavy damage during the collision with the terminal and was subsequently declared a total loss.
