What happened

On a flight from Margaret Lake to Lac de Gras, a wheel-ski equipped airplane was operating as flight TID601 with a total of ten people on board, consisting of two crew members and eight passengers. During the arrival process at the Lac de Gras road camp, the flight crew performed four separate approaches toward the intended landing zone on the frozen lake.

During these maneuvers, the aircraft descended to altitudes of less than 50 feet above the ground. On the fourth and final attempt, the aircraft reached an altitude of less than 50 feet, at which point the crew lost visual contact with the terrain. At 1245LT, the aircraft struck the ground approximately 1,850 meters southeast of the intended landing area.
