What happened
During an approach to Campo Grande Airport, the flight encountered challenging meteorological conditions characterized by heavy rainfall, low cloud ceilings, and significant turbulence. The pilot-in-command initiated a go-around during the initial final approach due to these environmental factors.
A subsequent attempt to land was also unsuccessful and abandoned shortly after. During a third landing attempt, the aircraft descended below a safe altitude and struck the ground in a field situated approximately 6 km from the runway threshold. The impact resulted in the total loss of the aircraft. There were four injuries reported among the crew members, but no fatalities occurred.
Findings
Investigations into the accident identified that the pilot proceeded with the third approach at an altitude that was too low for the prevailing conditions. This descent occurred while operating below the minimum required altitude during periods of gusty winds. Additionally, the investigation noted that the existing ground lighting infrastructure provided insufficient visibility, particularly when hampered by adverse weather. The presence of gusty winds and low altitude during the final approach were key factors in the impact.
