What happened
A cargo operation traveling from São Paulo-Congonhas Airport ended in a fatal accident while approaching Concórdia Airport. The aircraft was transporting a shipment of frozen meat at the time of the incident. During the final stages of the descent, the flight encountered adverse weather characterized by heavy rainfall and significantly reduced visibility. While on short final approach, the aircraft type struck a hill located approximately 1.5 km before reaching the runway threshold. The impact resulted in the deaths of all four crew members.
Findings
Investigations into the accident revealed that the flight was being conducted under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) despite the presence of Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC). The primary factor contributing to the collision was the crew attempting a VFR approach while operating in IMC conditions.
