What happened
During an approach to Puerto Aysén, an aircraft traveling from Coihaique-Teniente Vidal Airport collided with the terrain. While the crew was performing a descent toward the destination, the flight encountered weather conditions that were considered marginal. During this phase of the flight, the aircraft struck the side of Mt Pérez, situated approximately 42 km away from the airport.
Findings
The accident resulted in a total of 19 fatalities and left one passenger with serious injuries. The primary factor contributing to the impact was the encounter with marginal weather conditions during the descent phase.
