What happened
The incident involved a four-engine aircraft operating on a scheduled route from Buenos Aires to Rio de Janeiro. On board was an Argentinian delegation traveling to attend the Inter-American Conference in Rio. During the approach phase, the crew encountered thick fog that significantly reduced visibility. This condition prevented them from establishing visual contact with the destination airport.
Unable to proceed with a standard landing, the flight path was altered toward the northeast. The captain subsequently decided to execute an emergency landing, likely necessitated by fuel limitations. The aircraft crash-landed on a beach in Itapemirim, situated approximately 330 kilometers northeast of Rio de Janeiro. Despite the impact, all occupants survived without injury. The airframe sustained damage sufficient to be written off.
