Incident
Less than three minutes after departing from Villavicencio-Ernesto Cortissoz Airport, the flight crew encountered an engine problem. The captain communicated the issue to air traffic control as the aircraft climbed. The crew then maneuvered toward an open field, intending to make an emergency landing at low speed. However, during this approach, they lost control of the airplane, which stalled and subsequently crashed.
Casualties and Damage
All three crew members and four passengers sustained fatal injuries. Twenty-one other individuals were injured, while one passenger escaped without injury. The aircraft was destroyed on impact.
Engine Failure Details
Investigators found that one engine lost power during the initial climb, and white smoke was observed emanating from it.
Probable Cause
Official findings attributed the accident to engine problems for unknown reasons.
