What happened
A cargo operation departed from Orito at 07:40 local time, bound for Villavicencio-La Vanguardia Airport. The aircraft, a twin engine plane, was operating with a total of five people on board, consisting of three crew members and two passengers.
During the flight, the aircraft encountered difficult weather conditions. Approximately nine minutes after the departure, the crew contacted air traffic control to report they were passing through an altitude of 7,500 feet. Following this communication, the aircraft was granted permission to climb to 11,500 feet.
One minute after receiving the clearance, radar tracking of the flight was lost. The twin engine aircraft subsequently broke apart mid-air before impacting a field in the vicinity of La Montañita. There were five fatalities and no survivors from the crash.

Official investigations into the incident concluded that the precise reason for the structural failure and subsequent crash could not be determined.
