What happened
During the final approach to Tumaco-La Florida Airport, the aircraft began an uncontrolled descent while maintaining an altitude of approximately 100 feet. The aircraft subsequently made contact with the runway surface. Following the impact, the crew successfully executed braking maneuvers, allowing the aircraft to exit the runway and come to a halt on the apron.
As the aircraft moved onto the apron, the right wing suffered a partial structural failure. This event necessitated an emergency evacuation of all 92 occupants. While the aircraft sustained significant damage and was eventually declared a total loss, the number of injuries remained low.
Findings
- The aircraft entered an uncontrolled descent during the approach phase.
- A partial failure of the right wing occurred during the post-impact taxiing phase.
- The uncontrolled descent during the approach led to the initial runway impact.
