What happened
During operations at Moncton Airport, an aircraft made contact with a snow removal vehicle following its arrival on runway 29. The incident occurred immediately after the plane had touched down on the runway surface. The impact between the moving aircraft and the plough resulted in the vehicle and the plane coming to a complete stop.
As a result of the collision, there were two injuries reported: one sustained by the pilot and another by the driver of the snow plough. The captain remained unharmed during the event. Due to the severity of the impact, the aircraft was declared a total loss and was damaged beyond repair.
Findings
Investigations into the collision revealed that the primary factor involved the use of an unauthorized runway. It was concluded that the crew landed on a runway that had been closed to traffic to allow for ongoing snow removal operations.
