What happened
During a flight approaching Takhli AFB, the crew was performing the final approach phase when they received instructions to execute a go-around. This maneuver was ordered because the runway was occupied and not clear for landing. While flying at an altitude of approximately 500 feet, the aircraft experienced a loss of altitude and struck the ground roughly 200 meters before reaching the runway threshold. The impact caused the plane to burst into flames upon contact with the surface.
There were 30 fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft during the accident.
Findings
Official investigations have not reached a definitive conclusion regarding the exact cause of the crash. However, investigators did not dismiss the possibility that the loss of control was triggered by a loss of engine power at the moment the crew began the go-around procedure.
