What happened
While preparing for arrival at Zahedan Airport, the flight crew performed standard landing configurations and checklist procedures. During this phase, the pilot identified that the left main landing gear had failed to extend from its wheel well. In response to this mechanical issue, the crew aborted the landing attempt and transitioned into a go-around procedure.
To manage the situation, the crew entered a holding pattern for approximately one hour. This period was used to reduce the aircraft's fuel weight and to attempt further deployment of the stuck landing gear, though these efforts were unsuccessful. The aircraft was subsequently cleared to land on runway 35.
Upon making contact with the runway, the aircraft type traveled approximately 1,500 metres along the surface. During the rollout, the plane drifted toward the left side of the runway and exited the paved surface, eventually coming to a stop in a nearby sandy area. While the 103 occupants managed to evacuate the aircraft without any fatalities or injuries, the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The primary issue was a mechanical failure preventing the left main landing gear from deploying.
- The aircraft exited the runway after a prolonged rollout following the landing attempt.
