What happened
During the landing phase of the flight, the crew performed an approach with an improper configuration. This error resulted in the aircraft type touching down at an excessive velocity and significantly past the runway threshold, specifically approximately 2,775 feet beyond the start of the paved surface.
Due to the high speed and the reduced distance remaining on the runway, the aircraft could not decelerate sufficiently to remain on the pavement. The subsequent overrun caused the plane to lose its undercarriage before finally coming to a stop. Although the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss, all 39 occupants were successfully evacuated from the wreckage without injury.
Findings
Investigations into the incident determined that the primary factor was an incorrect approach configuration maintained by the flight crew. This error directly led to the high speed at touchdown and the late position on the runway, which stripped the pilot of the necessary stopping distance.
