What happened
During a local training session at Khartoum-Haj Yusuf Airport, the crew performed a series of successful touch-and-go maneuvers on runway 18. After completing these maneuvers, the crew prepared for a full takeoff. However, during the takeoff roll, the captain encountered a mechanical issue involving the inability to retract the flaps from 40° to 16.5°.
In response to this malfunction, the pilot decided to abort the takeoff and applied emergency braking. During the aborted takeoff, the aircraft type skidded along the runway surface and overran the end of the pavement. The excursion resulted in the loss of the right main landing gear. The aircraft eventually came to a stop after colliding with the ILS antenna for runway 36. There were 0 fatalities and 0 injuries reported among the crew, though the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The primary factor leading to the excursion was the failure of the flap mechanism to transition from 40° to 16.5° during the takeoff roll.
