What happened
Shortly after departing from Cagayancillo Airport, the pilot notified air traffic control of mechanical issues involving the engines. In response to these engine problems, the flight was authorized to perform an emergency landing back at the departure airfield.
During the final approach phase, the aircraft drifted out of its proper alignment with the runway. To correct this, the captain applied additional power to the engines and began a go-around maneuver. During this attempt to stabilize the flight, the aircraft type lost altitude and impacted the ocean approximately 2 km away from the coast.
Findings
Of the total occupants on board, 14 fatalities were recorded. One passenger was successfully rescued from the wreckage. The incident involved a total of 15 people on board.
