What happened
A flight transporting personnel departed from Cagayan de Oro Airport, destined for Jolo, carrying a total of 88 passengers and a crew of 8, which included three pilots. Upon arriving at Jolo Airport, the four-engine aircraft touched down on runway 09. During the landing roll, the aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently within the available runway length. The aircraft subsequently exited the paved surface, striking several houses before coming to a halt in a nearby wooded area. The impact and subsequent movement caused the aircraft to burst into flames.
Findings
The accident resulted in at least 49 fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft, along with three deaths of individuals on the ground. While many others sustained injuries, the primary factor in the disaster was the inability of the aircraft to stop before the end of the runway.
