Incident Overview
On the day of the incident, an airplane departed from Santa Cruz Airbase at 0900 Local Time (LT). The aircraft was undertaking a maritime patrol mission when it encountered significant operational difficulties shortly after takeoff.
Operational Context and Emergency Response
While navigating along the coastline, the flight crew identified engine problems that necessitated an immediate course correction. Due to the severity of the mechanical issues, the crew made the decision to ditch the aircraft in the waters off Restinga de Marambaia. The emergency procedure was executed swiftly, resulting in the airplane sinking approximately three minutes after the ditching maneuver.
Rescue Operation and Outcome
Despite the total loss of the airframe, all personnel on board were recovered safely. The rescue operation was conducted by the crew of an Argentinian ship that responded to the incident site. All four crew members were retrieved from the water and confirmed safe following the emergency.
