What happened
On a scheduled maritime patrol mission, an aircraft departed from Santa Cruz Airbase at 09:00 local time. During the flight along the coastline, the crew experienced mechanical difficulties involving one of the engines. In response to these engine problems, the decision was made to perform an emergency ditching near Restinga de Marambaia.
Following the impact with the water, the aircraft sank within approximately three minutes. Despite the rapid sinking of the plane, all four crew members were successfully recovered from the sea by personnel aboard an Argentinian vessel.
Findings
Investigations into the incident concluded that the primary factor leading to the ditching was engine failure in flight.
