What happened
During a scheduled cargo operation, the flight crew identified technical difficulties involving the aircraft's engines. In response to these engine problems, the crew initiated an emergency diversion to the Rumbek Airstrip.
Upon arriving at the airfield, the aircraft completed its landing; however, the crew was unable to decelerate the plane sufficiently before the end of the runway. This resulted in the aircraft overrunning the landing strip. The impact of the excursion caused the right wing of the aircraft type to break into two separate pieces.
Despite the structural damage to the wing, there were no injuries reported among the crew members on board during the incident.
Findings
- The primary sequence of events began with engine problems encountered during the flight phase.
- The inability to stop within the available runway length led to the excursion.
