What happened
A charter flight traveling from Juba to Tonj was carrying security personnel tasked with preparing for an upcoming visit by the President of South Sudan. Upon arrival at Tonj Airfield, the aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently within the available runway length. This led to an overrun of the landing strip, causing the plane to come to a stop against several residential buildings.
While the 41 occupants on board the aircraft were able to evacuate without sustaining any injuries, the accident resulted in one fatality involving a woman who was located on the ground near the impact site.
Findings
The primary factor in the accident was the inability of the aircraft to stop within the remaining distance of the runway during the landing phase.
