A twin-engine aircraft crashed short of the runway at Krasnoyarsk-Severniy after a stall during its second landing attempt, resulting in seven fatalities and eighteen injuries.

What happened

The incident occurred shortly after departure from Krasnoyarsk-Severniy Airport. Approximately fifteen minutes into the flight, the crew detected a drop in oil pressure on the left engine. In response to this mechanical failure, the pilots shut down the affected engine and feathered the propeller. The decision was made to return to the departure airport for an emergency landing.

During the initial final approach, the aircraft was traveling at excessive speed. Additionally, the crew experienced difficulties in lowering the landing gear. Due to these combined issues, the captain elected to execute a go-around maneuver. A few minutes later, during the second attempt to land, the aircraft stalled while at an altitude of approximately 50 meters. The plane subsequently crashed several hundred yards short of the runway threshold.
