What happened
On January 27, 2023, a Piper PA-3-200T, registration LV-BHL, was performing a recreational flight from La Plata to Mar del Plata. During the landing phase at Astor Piazzolla International Airport, the aircraft's nose gear tire valve failed. This mechanical failure caused the aircraft to come to a complete stop on the runway.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) conducted a technical review of the incident. Investigators examined the characteristics of the aircraft and the specific conditions of the landing gear following the event. The investigation focused on the nature of the component failure and its impact on the aircraft's operational safety.
Findings
The investigation established that the primary cause of the incident was the rupture of the nose gear tire inflation valve. This failure occurred during the landing sequence, preventing the aircraft from completing its taxiing or exiting the runway normally. There were no injuries reported to the crew or passengers, and the aircraft sustained no damage from the event.
