What happened
On February 2, 2023, a Learjet 60, registration LV-JJQ, was conducting a medical evacuation flight from San Fernando to Posadas. During the landing phase at Libertador General José de San Martín Airport in Misiones, the aircraft experienced a malfunction within the landing gear hydraulic system. This mechanical failure prevented the aircraft from maintaining its intended path, causing it to veer off the runway and come to a stop in the surrounding area.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the technical failure of the hydraulic system during the approach and landing sequence. Investigators examined the aircraft's systems following the excursion to determine why the landing gear mechanism failed to operate as required. The inquiry reviewed the flight parameters of the medical transport operation and the mechanical state of the aircraft upon its arrival at the airport.
Findings
- The primary cause of the runway excursion was a failure in the landing gear hydraulic system.
- The aircraft was operating in a medical transport capacity (sanitary flight) at the time of the incident.
- There were no fatalities or injuries reported among the two occupants on board.
