What happened
On June 26, 2025, a Learjet 35A, registration LV-IYQ, was performing a non-scheduled business flight from San Rafael, Mendoza, to Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in Buenos Aires. As the aircraft was landing on runway 13, the nose gear tire burst immediately upon contact with the runway surface.
The pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a complete stop on the runway without significant difficulty and promptly notified air traffic control of the situation. Following the incident, the aircraft was towed to the south apron.
The investigation
Following the event, Aeropuertos Argentina, working in conjunction with the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC), conducted a runway inspection to search for foreign object debris (FOD) that might have caused the puncture. This inspection yielded no significant findings that could link the incident to runway debris.
Upon reaching the apron, maintenance crews removed the affected tire for examination. The inspection of the tire revealed no evidence of prior failures or associated damage. Due to the lack of findings, the exact cause of the puncture could not be determined with certainty.
Findings
- The incident resulted in minor damage to the aircraft.
- A runway inspection ruled out the presence of relevant FOD as a contributing factor.
- The origin of the tire puncture remained undetermined following the physical inspection of the component.
