What happened
On June 20, 2024, at 11:50 UTC, a commercial flight operated by FB Líneas Aérea experienced a runway excursion at Teniente Luis Candelaria International Airport in Bariloche, Río Negro. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-8Q8 registered as LV-KAY, was performing a regular scheduled landing on runway 29. During the landing phase, the aircraft departed the prepared runway surface. Despite the excursion, there were no significant damages reported to the airframe, and all 198 individuals on board—comprising 6 crew members and 192 passengers—remained unharmed.
The investigation
The preliminary investigation by the JST focused on the circumstances surrounding the landing of flight FO5240, which had departed from Ministro Piniastri International Airport (SAEZ) approximately two hours prior to the incident. Investigators examined the flight path, the operational conditions at the aerodrome, and the aircraft's behavior during the touchdown and rollout on runway 29. At the time of the event, the aircraft was operating under Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC).
