What happened
On September 7, 2021, a Cessna 150, registration LV-GDK, was conducting a general aviation training flight from Iguazú International Airport to Posadas International Airport. While operating in the cruise phase of the flight, approximately 7 nautical miles from the 200 radial of the Iguazú VOR in the province of Misiones, the pilot identified an abnormal increase in the engine oil temperature. To mitigate potential risks, the pilot executed a precautionary landing in a nearby field.
The investigation
The Argentine Transportation Safety Board (JST) reviewed the technical details of the occurrence, including the aircraft's performance and the conditions of the airframe following the landing. The investigation focused on the mechanical nature of the engine temperature spike and the subsequent flight maneuvers.
Findings
- The primary cause of the landing was an elevated engine oil temperature detected during the cruise phase.
- There were no injuries reported for the crew or passengers following the landing.
- The aircraft sustained no damage during the event.
