What happened
During an approach to Santa Cruz do Sul Airport, the aircraft encountered adverse weather conditions characterized by rainfall. Upon landing on runway 26, the aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently within the available runway length. The plane overran the end of the pavement and continued for approximately 50 meters before striking an embankment, where it eventually stopped.
As a result of the impact, the copilot was killed, while the captain sustained serious injuries. The remaining three occupants of the aircraft suffered minor injuries. The aircraft was a total loss due to the force of the collision.
Findings
Investigations into the accident revealed that the aircraft touched down approximately 400 meters beyond the runway threshold. It was determined that the aircraft was traveling at an excessive speed during the landing phase, which prevented the crew from stopping the vehicle before the end of the 4,000-foot runway.
