What happened
During a ferry flight returning to Krasnoyarsk, an Antonov aircraft was conducting its approach to the airport approximately 20 minutes after sunset. The flight was being operated as a return leg following a completed cargo mission from Yeniseyske to Krasnoyarsk.
As the aircraft approached the airfield in conditions of restricted visibility, it descended to an inadequate altitude without the crew realizing the error. Approximately 55 meters prior to reaching the middle marker, the plane made contact with treetops. The subsequent impact sequence involved hitting a telegraph pole, a wooden fence, and a hangar. The aircraft finally came to rest 85 meters past the middle marker, where it caught fire.
The accident resulted in three fatalities among the crew at the scene, while the radio navigator sustained serious injuries. The sole survivor later passed away from their injuries three days after the event.
Findings
While investigators could not establish a definitive cause for the accident, evidence suggested that the crew initiated a premature descent during the approach phase.
