What happened
During a night flight originating from Krasnoyarsk, the crew initiated an approach to Dikson under conditions of marginal visibility and weather. While on short final approach, the aircraft type was flying at an excessive speed and maintained too high an altitude, leading to a touchdown significantly further down the runway than intended. This landing was further complicated by the presence of a tailwind component.
Due to the high speed and the distance already traveled on the runway, the pilot was unable to decelerate the aircraft before the end of the paved surface. The aircraft subsequently overran the runway, traveling at approximately 115 km/h. During the excursion, the plane crossed an embankment and ultimately settled in a nearby ravine.
All 35 occupants were successfully rescued from the wreckage. While there were 8 injuries reported among the passengers and crew, no fatalities occurred during the incident. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
