Event
Following an uneventful flight from Krasnoyarsk, the crew initiated the approach to Dikson during night operations in marginal weather conditions. On short final, the aircraft was too high and touched down too far down the runway. It landed with a tailwind component and at an excessive speed. Unable to stop within the remaining runway distance, the aircraft overran the end of the runway, traversed an embankment at a speed of 115 km/h, and eventually came to rest in a ravine.
Rescue
All 35 occupants were rescued from the aircraft. Among them, 8 sustained injuries. The aircraft was damaged beyond repair.
Investigation
An investigation was conducted into the accident. The probable cause was determined to be a wrong approach configuration on the part of the crew. Several contributing factors were identified: excessive speed upon landing, a tailwind component, lack of visibility, and snow squalls.
