Incident
A nighttime visual approach to Luzamba Airport ended with an aircraft overrunning the runway and sustaining substantial damage. The accident occurred when the crew touched down on the first meters of the runway, then, for reasons unknown, the aircraft lifted off and floated a few centimeters above the surface for several seconds before landing a second time.
Sequence of Events
After the second touchdown, the aircraft was unable to stop within the remaining distance on the gravel runway, which is 1,500 meters long. It overran the runway end, went down an embankment, and came to rest 16 meters beyond. The four crew members on board escaped without injury.
