What happened
A cargo flight originating from Salima was conducting its descent toward runway 23 at Luanda-4 de Fevereiro Airport when the flight crew encountered extreme meteorological conditions. During the initial approach, the aircraft became unstable due to the presence of heavy rainfall and intense wind gusts ranging between 50 and 80 knots. Consequently, the pilot executed a go-around procedure.
While the crew was attempting a subsequent approach to the runway, the aircraft experienced significant lateral instability, oscillating between left and right rolls. During this period, the right wing made contact with the runway surface. The impact of the landing was severe enough to cause the airframe to separate into two distinct sections. The wreckage came to a stop several hundred meters down the main runway.
Findings
- The primary factor in the accident was extreme weather conditions, specifically heavy rain and wind gusts reaching up to 80 knots.
