On June 8, 2024, a Piper PA-28R-201, registration RA-07829, was conducting a planned training flight near the settlement of Myachkovo in the Moscow region. The pilot had received authorization to operate the aircraft and had filed a flight plan within the control zones of Ramenskoye and Domodedovo airports. Prior to departure, the pilot performed a pre-flight inspection, confirming fuel levels were between 85% and 90% and checking the oil level, which was slightly above 7 quarts.
During the flight, the aircraft experienced an engine failure caused by a loss of oil. The pilot was forced to perform an emergency landing on the southeastern outskirts of Lytkarino. There were no injuries or fatalities reported as a result of the landing.
Investigation into the engine failure revealed that a non-standard quick-drain valve had been installed on the engine. When the pilot retracted the landing gear, the valve was struck by the bolt of the front strut hinge, causing the valve to open and the oil to leak.
Additionally, it was determined that the aircraft had not undergone a scheduled airworthiness inspection by the authorized body following the issuance of its Certificate of Airworthiness, which violated Federal Aviation Regulations.
