On April 23, 2024, a Robinson R44, registration RA-04310, was conducting a flight in the Moscow region to survey a new flight scheme within an aerobatic zone. The flight originated from Bunkovo airfield, following a route that included a specific coordinate point before returning to the airfield. The flight was conducted in Class G airspace under visual weather conditions.
During the mission, the pilot in command attempted a simulated approach to a landing site that had been selected from the air. During this maneuver, the helicopter's tail skid made contact with the ground first. This impact led to the main rotor blades striking the tail boom, causing the boom to detach from the aircraft.
Pre-flight preparations for RA-04310 included refueling with 183 liters of AVGAS 100LL and maintenance performed by specialists at Bunkovo airfield. The pilot utilized an internet portal to assess weather conditions and forecasts prior to departure. No injuries were reported following the incident.
