What happened
During the landing phase at Alief-Andrau Airpark, the aircraft's right main landing gear failed immediately upon contact with the runway. This structural failure caused the aircraft to lose directional control, leading it to veer off the runway surface before coming to a final stop.
The impact of the incident resulted in serious injuries to the pilot. The aircraft sustained damage that was determined to be beyond economical repair.
Findings
Investigations into the accident concluded that the collapse of the right main gear was the result of an overload failure. This mechanical failure was triggered by the pilot's improper level-off and touchdown technique during the approach and landing sequence.
