What happened
The incident occurred when a single-engine ski-equipped aircraft attempted to land on the surface of Lake Hurdalsjøen. During the approach and touchdown phase, the aircraft's skis penetrated the ice layer covering the water. The structural integrity of the ice was insufficient to support the weight of the machine, causing it to break through and submerge.
The aircraft sank beneath the surface of the lake. Despite the total loss of the airframe, the occupants were able to escape or remain safe, resulting in no casualties. The event is classified as a hull loss with no injuries reported.
