What happened
While traveling toward Arkhangelsk, the flight crew encountered worsening weather conditions. Despite the deteriorating environment, the decision was made to proceed with the flight instead of returning to Bereznik. After receiving clearance to descend to an altitude of 150 meters, the aircraft entered a region characterized by low visibility.
During this phase of the flight, the crew lost spatial orientation, leading the aircraft to drift from its intended flight path. The aircraft subsequently collided with an antenna cable situated within a military zone, approximately one kilometer from Vozhdoroma. Following the impact with the cable, the aircraft lost altitude and crashed 250 meters away from the initial strike point. The impact resulted in a post-crash fire. There were four fatalities among the occupants.
Findings
- The crew's loss of orientation due to poor visibility led to a deviation from the assigned route.
- The collision with an antenna cable was the primary event leading to the loss of altitude and subsequent crash.
