What happened
During the execution of a scheduled training mission, a Y-8GX4 Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) aircraft went down in the vicinity of Zhengchang village, located within the Guimos Province. The aircraft, which carried the registration 30513, was operated by the PLAAF 20th Special Missions Division.
Upon impact with the ground, the aircraft sustained catastrophic damage. The force of the crash, followed by a subsequent fire, resulted in the total destruction of the airframe. There were 12 fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft, with no survivors reported from the crew or personnel on board.
Findings
The specific circumstances surrounding the descent and subsequent impact remain undetermined at this time. It is noted that the division's fleet of Y-8G aircraft is stationed at a base located near the site of the accident.
