Air Astana is adding two international destinations, with Salalah in Oman and Tokyo Narita joining its schedule in late 2026.
The Omani service will run once a week from both of the carrier's bases, starting from Almaty on October 23, 2026 and from Astana the next day. Salalah becomes Air Astana's first point in Oman. Airbus A320 aircraft will fly the route.
The Tokyo Narita flights are due to begin on November 30, 2026, pending government approval, and will be operated twice a week with Airbus A321LRs under a codeshare arrangement with Japan Airlines. Air Astana's A321LRs carry 166 passengers, split between 16 lie-flat business seats and 150 economy seats, 18 of which are marketed as MySeat with extra room. The carrier says Tokyo will be its 22nd new route of 2026.
The airline had been building up its Middle East network earlier in 2026, adding frequencies between Almaty and Dubai and introducing flights linking Jeddah and Madinah with several Kazakh cities. Conflict in the region brought that expansion to a halt, and the Dubai flights were suspended for a period before restarting in early October 2026.
In an interview due to be published by AeroTime, new chief executive Ibrahim Canliel said the airline is placing its international growth bets on Asia in the years ahead.
