airBaltic scraps Liège winter flights, airport left without passenger services

airBaltic has cancelled the winter seasonal flights it had planned to run from Liège Airport, according to airport officials cited by a transport publication. The Latvian carrier had intended to fly twice weekly to both Tenerife South and Gran Canaria from the Belgian airport.

With that cancellation, Liège Airport is left without any scheduled commercial passenger flights. TUI fly had already withdrawn from the airport in January 2026, cutting its passenger offering significantly before airBaltic's decision.

No reason was given for airBaltic's move. Liège Airport has traditionally been known more for cargo operations than passenger traffic, and the loss of these two carriers leaves it without a scheduled passenger network for now.

Whether another airline might step in to fill the gap left by airBaltic and TUI fly is unclear. It is also not known whether Liège will simply continue as a cargo-focused airport in the near term. Neither airBaltic nor Liège Airport offered further comment beyond confirming the cancellation to the publication that first reported it.

The episode points to the difficulty some regional airports face in keeping scheduled passenger routes going, particularly seasonal leisure services to holiday destinations, in a competitive European aviation market.
