United Airlines to add ten international routes in 2027, debut A321 XLR in Europe

United Airlines plans to launch ten new international destinations in 2027, according to the carrier. From New York-Newark, new flights will serve Luxembourg, Ljubljana, Olbia, Catania, Ibiza, Valencia, Marseille and Terceira. A route from Washington-Dulles to Toulouse and one from San Francisco to Okinawa are also planned.

United will additionally add service from Los Angeles to Osaka, from Washington to Milan, and from Denver to Paris.

Five of the new European routes will be operated with the Airbus A321 XLR, a long-range narrowbody that the airline says will first enter service on domestic US flights in September before moving to international routes starting December 1. Other aircraft mentioned for the new destinations include the Boeing 767-400ER, the Boeing 767, and the Boeing 737 Max 8, while the San Francisco-Okinawa route is set to use a Boeing 777-200ER.

According to United, the A321 XLR's cabin will include 20 Polaris suites with doors as well as twelve Premium Plus seats. The aircraft type is intended to allow the airline to operate long, thin routes that would not be viable with larger widebody jets.
