Syrian Air to add Vienna and Copenhagen routes as European expansion continues

Syrian Air plans to add flights to Vienna and Copenhagen starting September 21, the airline said. The routes are already listed in the carrier's booking system, though tickets are not yet on sale and flight frequency has not been confirmed.

The move builds on the airline's return to European skies in July, when it resumed service between Damascus and Amsterdam three times a week. That relaunch came after the European Union removed Syrian Air from its sanctions list last year, ending a ban that had lasted more than twelve years.

The airline said further international routes are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as it continues rebuilding its network following years of civil conflict in Syria.

Separately, German carriers Leav and Sundair have begun offering flights to Syria since early August. They operate from Berlin, Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn to Damascus and Aleppo, with a route to Deir ez-Zor reportedly planned. These services run independently of Syrian Air's own expansion.

Together, the developments point to a gradual reopening of Syrian airspace and air links to European destinations, after years in which the country's national carrier was barred from operating there under EU restrictions.
