Alaska Air Group outlines premium cabin retrofits for 787s, A330s and 737 MAX 10s

Alaska Air Group has set out plans to add lie-flat suites to a portion of its Boeing 737 MAX 10s and to rework the premium cabins on its 787s and on the Airbus A330s flown by Hawaiian Airlines. The carrier announced the changes on September 29, 2026, and said they will start appearing in 2028 as it widens its international network and pursues more premium traffic.

At least 25 MAX 10s are to get 12 Aurora Suites each, earmarked for certain transcontinental routes. Those jets will also be fitted with 12 Premium Reserve seats, a newly introduced premium economy product.

On the 787s, the airline plans 34 Aurora Suites featuring privacy doors, direct aisle access and beds that lie flat. Premium Reserve will account for 35 seats on the 787-9 and 787-10, offering 38 inches of pitch, leg rests and 16-inch entertainment screens.

The A330 upgrade replaces Hawaiian's existing 2-2-2 premium layout with 22 Leihōkū suites in a 1-2-1 arrangement, each with a privacy door and direct aisle access. Those aircraft will take 28 Premium Reserve seats as well. The rework lifts the share of premium seating on the A330s to roughly 40%, up from about 30% at present.

Alaska said the investments form part of its effort to broaden its reach.
