Alaska Airlines has named Amaresh Siva as its Chief Information Technology Officer, a position the carrier created to bring technology, data, digital offerings, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence under one leader. He starts in November.

Siva will report directly to chief executive Ben Minicucci and sit on the airline's leadership team, according to the company. His job is to set the related strategies across the group and modernise its technical platforms.

Alaska Airlines said Siva brings close to three decades of experience. He has worked at CVS Health, the retailer Target and GE Capital, where he was responsible for large technology and digitalisation projects.

The airline announced the appointment on Monday, 19 October.
