Alaska Airlines to pay $500,000 to settle pilots' military leave lawsuit
Alaska Airlines has agreed to a $500,000 class-action settlement covering 163 current and former pilots who say they did not accrue vacation during certain military leave periods. The carrier denies breaking federal law.
Alaska Airlines has agreed to pay $500,000 to settle a class-action lawsuit from pilots over vacation time earned during military leave, according to the proposed settlement.
The deal covers 163 current and former pilots who took military leave of 31 to 60 consecutive days between October 10, 2004, and March 31, 2026, and whose vacation balances did not grow during that time.
The pilots claimed the practice violated the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act. Alaska denies violating federal law, and said it settled rather than take on the expense and uncertainty of further litigation.
The agreement still needs approval before it takes effect.
