American Airlines to spend $4bn expanding DFW while changing how hub operates
American Airlines is investing billions to expand Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport while restructuring its flight schedule there, spreading the same volume of departures across more, smaller banks.
American Airlines plans to spend $4 billion expanding Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, its largest hub.
The expansion comes with a change in how the hub is run. Instead of concentrating departures into nine large banks, the airline will spread the same number of flights across 13 smaller banks. It is also adding more scheduled time to flights and investing in equipment meant to keep aircraft at DFW when gates are unavailable.
The approach pairs more capacity with less intense peaks. American is the dominant carrier at DFW, one of the busiest hubs in the world.
