ANA's venture fund invests in quantum computing startup Opt QC

ANA Holdings has made an investment in Japanese quantum computing developer Opt QC through its venture capital arm, without disclosing the amount.

ANA Holdings has invested in Opt QC, a Japanese developer of optical quantum computers, through its venture capital arm, the ANA Future Frontier Fund. The airline group did not disclose the size of the investment.

Opt QC builds on research from the University of Tokyo. Its work centers on optical quantum computing technology, and according to the company, the approach aims to enable extensive processing of quantum information using relatively few optical components.

The startup brought its first prototype, named MoQuren, into operation at Japan's AIST research institute in July 2026. In August, Opt QC also agreed a strategic capital and business partnership with telecommunications group NTT.

ANA said its decision to invest was based on the potential and scalability of the technology. It did not elaborate on specific applications within its airline or holding operations.
