Austin-Bergstrom begins work on six-gate midfield concourse

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport started construction Tuesday on a midfield concourse. Concourse M will occupy a 37,000-square-foot site on the west side of the airfield and add six gates for narrowbody aircraft, according to airport officials.

The building is meant to act as a relief valve while bigger work proceeds: the planned 26-gate Concourse B and a remodeling of Concourse A. Keeping those six gates available is intended to hold gate capacity steady during the construction period.

Passengers will reach and leave Concourse M by shuttle bus running from Gate 13 in the Barbara Jordan Terminal. Officials said that arrangement separates construction activity from the main terminal area.

Four of the gates will be contact gates. The remaining two will be walkout gates. The concourse will also have full-sized restrooms, a nursing room, seating areas, and a coffee market selling grab-and-go food and drinks.

Ghizlane Badawi, the airport's CEO, said in a news release that the added gates would help the airport support its airline partners and limit operational disruption while building continues, keeping the Central Texas region connected.

The airport is targeting completion and opening of Concourse M by early 2028.
